Let’s Talk About Sex #2: Cunnilingus

WARNING: This contains mature content possibly considered graphic or unsuitable for some, please read with caution.

So, Fangirls, in addition to Let’s Talk About Sex being about the fantastic new comic series Sex, it will also alternate with actually talking about sex. Opposite the weeks of discussing the comics, I’ll focus on something that happened in the book regarding sex, which, obviously, happens a lot. Sex is fascinating and fun to learn about, and I want to share all the things I learn! This week, we’ll be discussing cunnilingus!

Cunnilingus, more commonly known as eating out or going down, is a form of oral sex in which someone uses their tongue & lips to stimulate the clitoris, vulva and vagina of another.

There’s not much to the history of cunnilingus, because biology just sort of made it happen. The mouth and genitals are both very stimulating, primary erogenous zones. Which means, it makes sense for us to be drawn to oral sex; Those places feel good when they are touched, lets’s touch them to each other!

The clitoris is really the main star of this show. As the main source (biologically) of sexual arousal for women, I don’t think it minds the attention. Clitorises have about 8,000 tiny nerve endings contributing to its extensive amount of pleasure. We may only see a little bit of the clitoris, but its tissues run deep and can be aroused from stimulation around the visible area and from behind it, inside in the vagina.

Cunnilingus has gotten a reputation of being a sexual activity mainly practiced by women who like women, but I think most of us know that’s simply not true. Some cultures and societies attempt to enforce rules against practicing cunnilingus for this reason, and also because oral sex doesn’t serve for procreative purposes. Other cultures & religions, such as Hinduism & Taoism, praise the act, believing that it can achieve longevity.

Cunnilingus it’s all fun & pleasurable, but it’s important to remember that oral sex doesn’t necessarily mean safe sex. Both the giver and receiver of this act are at risk for harm & STIs and it’s important to keep everyone safe & healthy! Now, things like dental dams are always the most obvious route to going down safely, but I think the biggest way to keep everyone safe is to be smart. Know your partners status, Fangirls & Fanboys! Be clean & safe!
