Forever Evil: The Justice League is Dead

cRhGY8BSo, for anyone who hasn’t heard the news, the Justice League(as the title suggests) has been defeated, and they are all dead. September has been taken over by the villains of the DC Universe and its just been lovely so far.

The story is moving forward in two ways, beginning with Forever Evil. It starts immediately after Trinity Wars which I didn’t read, but it clearly didn’t end well for the Justice League. The basic idea is that this organization who calls themselves the Crime Syndicate has taken over and is gathering villains together for a sort of anti- Justice League. They employed the services of Scarecrow to deliver these special coins to villains as their invitation to gather. They decided to gather at the Justice League’s fallen tower to plan their ongoing nefarious plot muahahaha. The first issue is the introduction of this plot, so it doesn’t get too terribly much development, but it’s still excellent by itself.

Understandably, most villains are reluctant to trust this new Crime Syndicate. It consists of Ultraman, Superwoman, Owlman, Johnny Quick, Power Ring, and Deathstorm, whom apparently come from an alternate Earth that I haven’t read the comics for. They killed the Justice League and claimed Earth for themselves. Many villains are at least latently interested otherwise they wouldn’t have shown up. The Crime Syndicate looks very much like some in the Justice League, but when a villain named Monocle says that they are just the Justice League in disguise, attempting to trick the villains, he promptly gets his face melted off by Ultraman. Definitely not a trick in that aspect I’d say. During this meeting, the Sun begins to come up and seemingly harms Ultraman, who pushes the moon in front of the Sun to create an eclipse. We leave the last panel with Lex Luthor deciding that this is a job for Superman to fix, and wondering where he is.

Now the second part of this story continuing is in the form of many villains getting their own comics! A lot of them are origins comics but they are just straight up delicious. I read The Riddler so fast because it was just too exciting to take my time with! I have already bought so many, and there are about 14 more that I still want. They release a big batch of them every week, and I’ve already got them planned for which ones I will be getting for sure! I have already bought Trigon, Reverse Flash, Grodd, Brainiac, Bizzaro, Harley Quinn, Mr. Freeze, Riddler, Darkseid, Two Face, Joker, Solomon Grundy, Court of Owls, and Zod. They are all being released with these great lenticular covers, but they do also come in regular 2-D. Obviously the lenticular covers are more desirable; some of them are already selling on eBay for $15+ and they are only going up from there! Upcoming villains that I’m excited for are on 9/18: Lex Luthor, The Penguin, Ra’s Al Ghul, Clayface, Scarecrow, Black Hand, H’el, and Deathstroke. On 9/25: Bane, Killer Croc, Doomsday, The Joker’s Daughter, Sinestro, and Black Adam. These aren’t even all of them that are being released either! check out the full schedule for September releases here!

I’ll be covering some of my favorites for the next few weeks as well as the continuation of Forever Evil when that is released, so look out for your favorite villains in the weeks to come!

I should mention that these comics are technically part of their respective series. For example, on Joker’s comic, “Joker” is written over the top of “Batman”
