With the onset of Fall comes a great many things I love. Warm sweaters, the changing leaves, pumpkin spice flavored everything, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and oh yeah, Fall Programming! This Fall will mark the quiet murder of any free time I had between classes. There are so many things coming up!
I’ll try to limit myself here, but fair warning, there is a high probability of spoilers and me vomiting nerdy goodness all over your favorite shirt.
Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
For anyone who could possibly not be aware of this show, it brings back Agent Phil Coulson, whom died in The Avengers film. Well, plot twist, he didn’t die, which actually confirmed a head canon of mine, so I’m just a little proud. Basically, the world is coming to grips with the fact that superhumans exist, and Agent Coulson is leading a team of highly skilled S.H.I.E.L.D. agents into the field. The show actually already premiered, and I missed the first episode! Lucky for me, the entire thing is on ABC’s website, and I now know when it is on. It will be playing Tuesdays at 8pm, and you can watch the trailer here to get pumped up about it!
The Legend of Korra
Yes, I am aware that I am out of the demographic this show is intended for, but hey, I know a lot of people who love the Avatar series! Another show I have missed every single episode of since it’s premiere September 13th. The first season was excellent, I just never catch this one on! Looks like I’ll be catching up online with this season too. It obviously follows Korra, the worlds Avatar after the death of Aang, the previous show’s Avatar. She is farther along in her bending, because unlike Aang, she received formal training. I wont get into too much detail, but there are some very cool references to Aang, and we even get to sometimes see things he did later in life. This is probably due to the fact that his children, grandchildren, and even Katara make many appearances. It also looks like in this new season, she can go into the Avatar state whenever she feels like it, which is potentially badass. It’s on Fridays at 7pm!
Huzzah, a show I haven’t missed the premiere of! Supernatural comes back with Season 9 on October 8th at 9pm. I Just caught all the way up and finished Season 8, so I am very excited to see where that cliffhanger leaves us. Remember those spoilers I mentioned? Avert your Eyes now if you have not finished Season 8. Last we saw, Metatron, the Scribe of the Lord, had tricked Castiel into gathering ingredients to banish all of the angels from Heaven, stole Castiel’s grace, making him essentially human, and cast everyone out. On Earth, Sam was about to slam shut the gates of Hell forever, but was stopped by Dean when he realized it would kill Sam to do it. Crowley had been kidnapped by the boys, leaving Hell with no king. So essentially everything was going to shit. Okay, you can look again. Creators of the show have said that the events of last season is going to create some interesting fallout for the Winchesters and I am so anxious to know what that means!
The Walking Dead
The Walking Dead returns October 13th, Sundays at 9pm! Season 3 left us in an interesting spot. SPOILERS Rick and the gang just fought off the forces of Woodbury, the Governor killed a lot of his own people and rode off into the sunset with his two lieutenants, and Andrea is dead just the very second I started to like her again, bummer! Spoilers over! I actually just got an email today that Season 3 is on Netflix, so if you need to catch up, now’s your chance! For those of you without Netflix, AMC always does this thing for The Walking Dead where they play every episode in a marathon leading up to the premiere. They are starting with the first episode on October 7th at 8pm!
We can’t forget Doctor Who, can we?! For those of you who read Whovian Wednesdays, you’ll know that I am all too excited for the 50th Anniversary on November 23rd! This isn’t so much a return, because then the next episode after that isn’t until Christmas, but it’s something to be excited for nonetheless! I can’t even express how excited I am for this, and how sad I am that I will probably have to wait until at least the next day to watch it! My college doesn’t get BBC, and if I get it off iTunes it isn’t available for download until the next day. I can’t wait to have my questions answered and see 10 and 11 working together!
The Tomorrow People
This is another show coming to the CW that looks very good! It will be premiering October 9th at 9pm. It looks to be a show about these late teen/early twenties group of people with powers. There seems to be good and bad factions, and some of them look to be just discovering their abilities, where as some characters are clearly very adept in the use of theirs. You can watch the trailer here. I think the appeal for me is that before it went down the tube, Heroes was my favorite show, and this show reminds me of it. This is actually a reboot of a show from the 1970’s with the same name and premise. Human parents birth a child that in their teens to late adolescence “break out” and develop these abilities. So they are basically X-men.
American Horror Story: Coven
American Horror Story is back this fall with their 3rd season! Those not familiar with the show will not know that every season is a story by itself; the only relation between seasons is the use of the same actors. Season 1 was about one hundred times better than Season 2 in my opinion. The first season took place in “The Murder House” where this family moved in, only to slowly find out that every resident of the house has died in there, and now they are trapped in the house as ghosts. Some of them are nice, some of them are malicious, and some are just like Peeves and all they want to do is cause mischief. Season 2 took place in an mental institution from the 50’s and it was just a little weird. There was a possessed nun, and aliens, and a lot of hallucinating; it tends to happen in an insane asylum. I actually missed the beginning of this season. Season 3 starts October 9th at 10pm on FX, and from what I can tell from the trailers and well…the name, it seems to be be about witches of some sort, maybe the Salem Witch Trials is the time period?(I just looked into it, yes, it’s witches.) In any case, I am more excited for American Horror Story: Coven than I was for Season 2.
Last but not least we have Sherlock. I put this last because there really isn’t a date for it. It keeps getting pushed back, and taking steps forward, and getting small snips of news here and there, all a means to the end of torturing the fandom to death. Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman, Steven Moffat, and Mark Gatiss are all very busy people, so it’s to be understanded. Obviously Benedict just finished his role in Star trek: Into Darkness, Martin has been working on the newest installment of The Hobbit, Steven and Mark are both writers on Doctor Who, and honestly I’d rather they focus on Doctor Who for now! I’m sure all of the torture is Moffat’s idea, I think he thrives on the tears of fangirls. You can watch the 26 second teaser for Season 3 here. That’s right, all we have is 26 seconds for all of that waiting. A bit of good news though, I read a quote from Benedict Cumberbatch that they have signed on for a 4th and 5th season as well!
Comics this Fall
These are comics I am excited about, but I am starting to babble on. Maybe next week!
- Lights Out: A Green Lantern comic series that promises to “change the Green Lantern universe forever”
- Forever Evil 2: The continuation of Forever Evil and all of villains month!
- Damien: Son of Batman: A comic that will be following the son of Bruce Wayne and Talia Al Ghul who is the most recent Robin.
To recap, I will be watching The Walking Dead on Sundays, Agents of SHIELD and Supernatural on Tuesdays, The Tomorrow People and American Horror Story: Coven on Wednesdays, The Legend of Korra on Fridays if I can catch up, and Doctor Who and Sherlock when they show up! Lucky I have no classes that could possibly interfere with any of those!
