Villain Chat: The Color Green

I’ve noticed a thing, Fangirls; when the color green is included in a character’s costume or anything around them, they’re a bad guy. So let’s talk about who!

For the most part, in comics, primary colors (red, yellow, and blue) mean hero, secondary colors (green, purple, and orange) mean villain. For example, Green Goblin, Doctor Doom, Riddler, and Joker all fall into that category. At the same time, Hulk and the Lantern Corps are seen as good characters, but are green. I believe Hulk is green and purple, villain colors, because Bruce Banner becomes the Hulk out of anger. Within the Green Lantern Corps, there are many amazing individuals, but it is where Sinestro got his start, and Guy Gardener as well.

In Disney, the same rule seems to apply. Maleficent has green skin and green fire, Scar has green fire, and Lotso is purple. Many have green eyes, as well. The witch from Brave, even though she isn’t green, her brew that shows the flaws in the mother-daughter relationship is.

Green is also the color of jealousy, greed, and money; things associated with evil. So what have you noticed about green in villains? In heroes? Let me know in the comments!
