I Finally Watched the Thing: Lord of the Rings

23913_the_lord_of_the_ringsHey everybody! So this may be the start of a series of articles that I have been thinking of writing for a while about things I watch that I am completely late to the bandwagon on. This time I’ll be talking about something I had seen before but never really given them enough attention; The Lord of the Rings series.

Middle-earth-Shadow-of-Mordor-7With the coming release of Shadow of Mordor, I figured I might want to understand the LoTR universe a bit better before I play a game based in this universe. So, I sat down with some snacks to take this epic journey one night at a time!

To be short, they were pretty good when you can actually pay attention for 3 hours at a ROTK-Minas-Tirithtime! I don’t quite extend into the super fandom but that’s possibly because I haven’t
grown up watching the movies and/or reading the books. I was so proud of these little Hobbits by the end of the movie as well as the rest of the Fellowship and all of the battles they fought to keep hold of the kingdom of men.

I got a little misty eyed when Aragorn bowed to Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin and everyone followed in kind. Just the fact that these little Hobbits come from the Shire where nothing too spectacular really ever happens and came on this adventure and came out alive and praised by the King and all of his subjects was so incredible to me.

I won’t go into specific details, really just because well, that would be 9 hours of things to cover. I will say that the idea of an extended edition does not quite excite me. 3 hours is a long movie, if I’m going to commit 3 more hours of my life to something I’d rather it be a whole new movie! I am however very excited to catch up on the Hobbit movies to be fully the_hobbit_the_battle_of_the_five_armies-wideand truly ready for the new Hobbit to be released! Seeing where Bilbo ends up by the time LoTR comes around is extraordinarily interesting considering his journey to that point. I also am really thinking about one day taking on the books, just because the behind the scenes stuff fascinates me just as much as the actual story.
