Appdicted: Disney Infinity 2.0

Fangirls, I played the first Disney Infinity, and now I’ve played around a bit on 2.0.  I haven’t finished it by any sense of the imagination, but I do have some thoughts on it.

I hate to say it, Fangirls, but I’m not terribly impressed with Disney Infinity 2.0.  I really enjoyed the original, to the point where the first time I played I played for 10 hours straight.  My eyes dreid out and I had a headache for the next couple days.  That day Natalie and I came all but one mission from beating the Monster’s U playset, and halfway through the Incredibles, and we played in the Toybox.  But things were different with 2.0.  I only played for maybe 3 hours the first time, and have only played it 2 times since.  There isn’t an urgency or a need with 2.0 and that kind of bums me out.

I guess my biggest problem is how much I’m comparing 2.0 to the original.  The first Disney Infinity pack gave us 3 characters from 3 different worlds, each with their own playset.  The worlds and Toybox were smaller, but there felt like there was more to do.  Then with the next wave, there were more characters and more playsets.  Not with 2.0.

The Disney Infinity 2.0 starter pack came with only 1 playset, and all 3 characters went with it.  It also came with 2 power disks that are kind of like mini games.  When I get frustrated in a video game, I like the ability to switch where I’m playing to take a break while still playing.  It’s tougher to do that with Disney Infinity 2.0.  They only released 3 playsets altogether, and those are the only ones advertised, so I’m not sure if there will even be more.  I know that the Toybox set comes out today, with Merida and Stitch and games with the original characters, but no playsets.  I was really excited when I saw that Aladdin and Jasmine would be coming out; their world could be so cool to play in!  But that hasn’t been announced; they’ll be in a set like Anna and Elsa were.

I also don’t like that you can’t use the playsets from the original on the 2.0.  I expected to be able to continue leveling up Sully and Mr. Incredible (they’re my favorite to play as) in their playsets with the new game.  I can if I buy the Originals Toybox, but I’ve already spent several hundred dollars on the two starter packs and the characters I’ve bought outside of that.  So I’m frustrated.  There is the possibility of playing around in the Toybox as my older characters in 2.0, but that’s kind of it.

I guess I’m just bummed and broke.  I was expecting Disney Infinity 2.0 to blow the first one out of the water, but I kind of just shrug at it.  It isn’t my favorite game by any means, I keep looking at my first game and considering just playing that.  All that having been said, I do enjoy the game.  it just doesn’t seem as fun as the first does.  Super heroes are great; Thor is my favorite to play as (I thought it would be Black widow, but oh well).  It does feel far darker than the first, but when Frost Giants are taking over NYC, things get darker.

I like the Disney Infinity franchise.  I just feel like there are a lot of things they aren’t even considering when they’re pumping this stuff out.
