I Finally Watched The Thing: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

The-Hobbit-An-Unexpected-Journey-2012So just after telling you guys about why I can’t go see the Battle of the Five Armies in theaters yet, I decided to correct it and borrow The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey from a friend of mine.

To be short about it, it was great! I am more than curious about what will come in The Desolation of Smaug because somehow, I have avoided all spoilers of the actual plot without even trying!

There are a few things I was wondering though. Does anybody other than Gandalf know every dwarf’s name? I can recognize Thorin, Fili, and Kili by name; all of the others sound very nearly made up on the spot to my untrained ear. Also, why are Thorin, Fili and Kili so Fili-and-Kili-at-Door-fili-and-kili-33311474-1440-596 non-Dwarf looking? I feel like maybe I read something somewhere that said that Kili was part human or something. It would make sense considering he just looks like a short human. Maybe they will explain it in the Desolation of Smaug? Are they ugly by Dwarven standards!? Important questions. Also, are Fili and Kili brothers? Their names rhyme and they hang out a lot and stuff but they dont explicitly say, unless I missed it.

I thought it was a little silly that the orcs were initially scared away by burning pine cones but, that is really my only criticism. Also, the question comes up again; why don’t the giant hawks fly them all the way to the Lonely Mountain? Is it a favor type thing that Gandalf called in? Is it a faction thing? Is it too dangerous for them to get so close to where Smaug is?

Martin-Freeman-in-The-Hobbit-An-Unexpected-JourneyAlso, did anyone else get the feeling that Gandalf and Galadriel had a thing when Gandalf was younger? Can anyone confirm this?
