Let’s Talk About: Babeland

643x600ftoasis13Someone asked me the other day if I knew of any good sex toy shops, physical or online. I was transported back to when I had my first experience with a toy shop, both online & in person, it was the same retailer. It was like floating around a dream of dildos, lubes, anything my mind could think of and more. Babeland felt oddly like home.

Upon learning more about them is when I really became interested in sexuality & sex education. I thought sex stores were kind of sleazy, creepy places that I didn’t want to go to. I was interested in sex toys & these things, but surely there was another way to get to them that one of these stores. Then one day, on television, I heard about Babeland. A new show was doing a story on them, and something in me was drawn to it. I waited until my mother was elsewhere and searched it up online. I was pretty young then, and in those days our one desktop computer was in the living room. With some privacy, I went on to Babeland’s website. I was so dazzled by all these things, something about it just excited me, and not in a sexual way really. I just liked looking at all these things, learning about them, and seeing what else the site had to teach me. Since then, I frequent the site, perusing the selection and searching through all their information.

That’s what I love about this company. They don’t just give you sex toys and things of the sort. They give you real information. They have tabs on their website for learning more about sex & sexuality, sex tips, and how to’s. The site not only offers you the products, but what to do with them. The whole experience is something I find comforting. Especially at first, when it was a little embarrassing to be interested in this stuff. There’s a helpfulness there that makes everything a little easier and more comfortable. babeland1

From what it seems, that is exactly why Babeland was started. Claire Cavanah and Rachel Venning had opened the first store in Seattle in 1993. There was a real lack of sex shops that were female friendly and offering up what they thought the world needed. So they made Babeland, a place where women, and anyone, could come in, get what they wanted, get educated, and just be comfortable.

And of course, all of this wonderful awareness is paired with a great selection of products. They sell a huge variety of stuff. Babeland offers up a lot of stuff that is hard to find on other sites. I’ve had the most experience with looking online, so I’m using that as a reference. Babeland has the things you want to be able to get online, including simple things like condoms. Their website is the only one I’ve seen that sells them. They also have tools for gender expression, not just sex. They have a great selection of binders, soft packs, you name it. Babeland has got it for you under their gender expression tab. The site also can help you with what you’re looking for, offering up a great sort of customer service. It’s absolutely helpful, especially if you’re a first time buyer. Someone might be visiting the website rather than a store out of comfort, and it’s great to know that you can get the same amount of help on the site. babeland2So pretty much, Babeland is the best sex toy retailer there is. A great selection of products, mixed with education, awareness, and helpfulness is something to really appreciate. They have one store in Seattle, and four in New York (Lower East Side, Soho, Brooklyn, Manhattan) and you can of course always visit them online. Everyone needs a great go to sex store that they’re comfortable with, and that store is Babeland.
