What Being a “Fangirl” Means To Me

To me, being a Fangirl means letting your passion flow. It means letting yourself care and delve into whatever it is that you may relate to or just love. It means staying up late and reading just one more issue; watching that great show for no other reason than the fact that it intrigues you or you find that the storyline is cool.

It means being happy and entertaining yourself with things that genuinely make you feel happy. From anything; loving comics or movies to books and games, as long as its something you love there’s no problem at all. Being a fan and letting myself slip into the fan community has been one of the best experiences of my life and I’ve met so many friends.  I’ve even had so many opportunities because of it. Although, being a fan has a different meaning to everyone. For me, being a Fangirl is the societal label put on why I enjoy going to conventions, why I have fallen hopelessly in love with a comic book character, and how I connect to emotionally with some of the characters in all sorts fictional works. So many people today make it a point to lower the status of people who let themselves enjoy the fiction world and that’s not okay. “Fangirls” are still just girls!

We still share the same everyday struggles and choices as anyone else. Whether it’s laying on a beach and tanning or laying on a couch and reading, the enjoyment is one and the same. Being a Fangirl to me is one of the best things in the world, and I hope that it brings you all as much happiness as it brings to me each and every day.
