Fangirls, I think I’ve met my match with addicting applications. I’ve been playing 1010! for over a month now, and I’m still not sick of it. When I first started playing, I wasn’t super attached, but now I play it before I fall asleep, once I wake up, on the bus, in the car, while I watch 30 Rock; constantly. I can’t stop, and I really don’t want to.
1010! is a rad as heck puzzle game that’s incredibly simple. You have a space that is 10 squares by 10 squares, and you get bars (both vertical and horizontal), L shapes, and squares that you have to use to fill lines. Once a vertical or horizontal line is completed, it disappears (kind of like Tetris). The goal is to keep it up for as long as possible.
And that’s it. You play as much as you can, until you’ve blocked yourself everywhere, and then you can either play again or quit. That’s all; no lives you have to wait for regeneration, no limit on plays, you can go for hours. That’s where it becomes an addiction. I’ve gotten to the point where I have to limit myself; if I’ve been playing for awhile, I’ll say the next time I hit over 500 points, I’ll stop. Otherwise, I have issues stopping.
I’ve figured out a method that I think breaks up the game rather well, and has led me to my highest scores. If I concentrate on filling and destroying one line at a time, I score higher. I usually either work across the bottom or up the side, and move up or across the board. It’s simple, but I think it’s organizing my mind.
I think a part of my addiction with this app is that I love the organization. It’s simple with lovely colors, and easy to maneuver. It relaxes me at night before I go to bed, and it’s something to do while my hair dries in the mornings. It’s a nice middle ground, and I really enjoy it.
The best part is that it’s free. So go download 1010! from the app store, and fall in love.
