Some Holiday Gift Suggestions For Your Favorite Fanboy

Greetings, Fangirls!

For those confused by the name in the author field here, allow me to introduce myself.

I’m Marty Day, and besides being a giant nerd, I am one of the co-hosts for the super awesome, super rad traveling live art competition, Super Art Fight.

Your fine editor is looking to get awesome Holiday Wish Lists from many different folks – and perhaps foolishly, I’ve ended up in the mix as a proper fanboy to help you fangirls pick out awesome geeky gifts for the gentlemen in your life.

So, here goes – awesome gift suggestions for the holidays.

For the guy who has t-shirts of everything…

teepublic-madmax

Why not an awesome shirt from TeePublic?

TeePublic is an incredible website where independent artists from all around the world can upload artwork and sell t-shirts (among other apparel) featuring their designs. If you know your fanboy’s favorite obsessions, chances are they’ve got a shirt for it – everything from movies that didn’t get official merchandise like Mad Max: Fury Road (pictured above), to cult-classics like Battle Royale, even of the moment memes, like “Hotline Bling”.

Price: Starting at $14.

For the couples that love to talk about – and get silly about – sex…

sex-criminals-vol-01-releases

I cannot speak highly enough of the amazing comic Sex Criminals, written by Matt Fraction and drawn by Chip Zdarsky.

While it has one of the silliest premises I’ve ever heard (They make time stop when they cum!), Sex Criminals is one of the best goddamn comics I’ve ever read – full of incredible moments about sex, love, relationships, emotions, and mental health. It’s also incredibly filthy AND incredibly funny. Read it with your loved one.

Price: First trade is $10, second trade is $15. (Amazon links: Vol. 1, Vol. 2)

For the fanboy who goes to MANY conventions…

amazon-charger

This one is a bit of a stretch, but trust me on this – it’s going to make sense in the end. If your fanboy is the type who goes to all the local nerd conventions/comic cons/anime shows, chances are, he gets cellphone anxiety, worrying about his battery percentage as the days grow long.

Here’s where you can be awesome – get him a sweet charging kit!

It’s a little DIY, but with the help of the awesome and low-priced AmazonBasics line, you can quickly pull something together! I actually put together a similar set for myself recently, and cannot underline how much it helps at conventions. Here’s what you’ll need:

Take your cables and such, toss them into the case, and it’s a one stop shop for portable power and piece of mind.

Price: Total, roughly $50. You can save a few bucks by dropping the lightning cable, if your fanboy doesn’t use Apple products.

For the fanboy who wants some nerdy warmth…

thinkgeek-hoodie

The selection of hoodies, jackets and sweatshirts at ThinkGeek have rarely been better than they are this season, complete with some awesome exclusive designs. My current fandom is Star Wars, so I am loving their exclusive “Land of the Rising Force” design, but I’m sure you can find a sweatshirt to match their obsession. And remember – gifting a proper comfy hoodie is just like giving your partner a warm hug on a cold day.

Price: $15 and up.

For the fanboy who wants his own robot…

sphero-bb8

You know this had to come up. If you’ve got the dough and are looking to gift your favorite geek his own personal droid, it really doesn’t get much better than the Sphero BB–8. Check out the video.

YEAH! I KNOW! SO COOL!

Price: $150

For the fanboy that won’t stop streaming…

appletv-hero

I’ve had the new Apple TV for about a week now, and I absolutely love it. I can stream all my favorite shows, rent the latest movies, and now, even play games and such on it! Bonus points if you talk to his parents about getting him some iTunes gift cards too.

Price: $150

I’ve tried to provide a good mix of things for different budgets – and hey, if you want one-on-one advice? Bug me on the Twitters, @martyfnday, I practically live on the thing.

Happy Holidays! Oh, and if you’re around DC, come see Super Art Fight on December 4th in Washington DC for our Second Annual Non-Denominational Holiday Spectacular!
