Star VS The Forces of Evil

Fangirls, for quite some time I have had my eye on Star VS The Forces of Evil. It’s a Disney XD show, and since I’ve been feeling a gaping hole where Gravity Falls will soon be leaving, and where Steven Universe’s extended breaks leave me; I felt it was time. I bought the first season on iTunes, and watched it all the other day. Sadly, I have to wait until late Spring / early Summer for the next season, but I will most likely be rematching the first one quite a bit, because I fell in love.

The show is about a Princess named Star Butterfly. At age 14 she was gifted a wand (as is her right, per Mewni custom), and immediately got into some trouble. Her parents, the king and queen of Mewni, thought it would be best for Star to get some practice with the wand in a different dimension, where there are fewer monsters. They bring Star to Earth, and she becomes an exchange student, living and guided through school and earth customs by Marco Diaz. His family is very welcoming to her, but he is a little worried by her hapless, crazy behavior (and that wand).

STAR VS. THE FORCES OF EVIL - "Star Comes to Earth" - As tradition dictates, Star receives the royal magic wand for her 14th birthday, but her parents worry that she is not ready for the responsibility and send her to a place they deem safe – Earth. This episode of "Star vs. The Forces of Evil" premieres Sunday, January 18 on Disney Channel (9:00 p.m., ET/PT). (Disney XD) STAR

They have many adventures, including a trip to Mewni for his parents’ anniversary, Mewberty (Mewni puberty, and it’s a wowzer), and many more. Most of them are punctuated with attacks from Ludo, a tiny, angry, bird dude from Mewni who wants to steal Star’s wand and use it nefariously. He is pretty darn incompetent, though, and Star is damn powerful, so she usually has the situation under control.

The show is crazy fun. There are great jokes, awesome action sequences, and a rad, pumped up theme song. If you enjoy Steven Universe and / or Gravity Falls, but want something a little less intense, I highly recommend Star VS The Forces of Evil. It’s cute, punk rock, and all around rad. It’ll soothe your magical girl needs, and your silly cartoon needs all in one go.
