Fangirls, I love Maryland. It’s my favorite place to visit for a multitude of reasons; my boy is there, my friends, great comic shops, and most of all, great food. My absolute favorite place to go while in Maryland is a restaurant called Golden West Cafe. Nestled in the far from sleepy Hampden, Golden West is the king of hipster hangouts. It’s a wonderfully warm restaurant, with all sorts of foods for every diet.
Being a vegetarian with a boyfriend who’s allergic to everything under the sun, it’s hard to find places where both of us can get full, real meals. Golden West has you covered, though, which is wonderful. As I plan each visit to MD, my first question to the boy is, “Can we go to Golden West when I get there?” I love it, so darn much.
The first time I visited Golden West, I had some phenomenal vegan french toast. After that, I remember having a regular black bean burger, and the time after that, I found out that they will substitute a black bean burger for any of their regular burgers. Since then, I’ve lived for their black bean rendition of the apple and brie burger. As many vegetarians know, a good black bean burger can be hard to find. There are all sorts of variations, and some restaurants even serve the stuff that you keep in the freezer. Luckily, that’s not the case with Golden West. Hell, there was a time, a couple visits back, where I was working, and thinking about Golden West, and started crying because the burgers are that good. (Disclaimer; I am incredibly emotional, so I may have overreacted, but I just really love food, Fangirls).
If you’re a foodie, or just in the neighborhood, I can not recommend Golden West highly enough. It’s delicious and will have something for every palette (plus they serve breakfast all hours). I’m writing this as I sit on the train coming home from Maryland, and wishing I was sinking my teeth into a delicious black bean burger now. If you’re looking for the best black bean burger in Maryland, head over to Golden West Cafe in Hampden, and enter tastebud heaven.
