Black Canary Issue 8

Oh my goodness, Fangirls. Not only am I ridiculously behind on Black Canary comics, but this one has so much happening in it that I needed to stop reading, multiple times. It starts with some great incorporated “previously on…” While the police are interrogating Byron, Paloma, and their road manager. It seems that Dinah has disappeared, the police thing Ditto and Mr Lance are dead, and that what happened at Gotham Stadium was more than what is being released to them (on that account, they’re right).

The record sends some lawyers, though, to answer questions for the remaining band members, and they get to leave. They’re handed an envelope with instructions to play in Berlin, as Dinah needs their help.

Dinah, meanwhile, is in Berlin, being forced to fight for what looks like a crazy cult. There, she’s rooming with Vixen, and being forced to fight for entertainment. The woman in white (who I thought was Dinah’s mother, but is actually her aunt) shows up after a fight, explaining that Dinah has to get close enough to them to take the cult down from the top, but Vixen has other plans. She lures guards to their cell, feigns distress, then kicks their asses. After absolutely destroying, she and Dinah set themselves free. They fight their way out, and Dinah goes to the airport to get a ticket back to Gotham, right as her bandmates are arriving in Berlin.

The issue ends there, with the bandmates heading to the venue where Dinah was, and Dinah heading home while vowing to never put her bandmates in danger again. It’s a bit of a mess.

This comic is just too damn gorgeous, Fangirls. It’s fun and powerful, and not here to take anyone’s bullshit. I am very excited to be reading the next couple of issues poolside next week, so I will save any more reading until then.
