Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me (And Other Concerns) By Mindy Kaling

Fangirls, I picked this book up because the title alone is a little too accurate to my constant worries. Kaling’s book is a phenomenal and fun read, and you should definitely check it out.

Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me (And Other Concerns) is an interesting series of essays and anecdotes from times across Kaling’s life. There are stories of her childhood and life as an adult; interesting bits about her family and “weekend friend” along with¬†her history in comedy. It’s a fun read, and stars some of my other favorite comedians as well (there’s mention of Amy Poehler and Will Ferrell, along with many others).

I’ve been all about these books written by celebrities as of late. I’m not looking for quite so much mythical stuff (except Harry Potter and the Cursed Child because, let’s be honest, what else is there to look forward to in life), so I feel more “grown up” reading essays and memoir type books. This definitely got me interested in reading Kaling’s second book (Why Not Me?) along with more from the “Celebrity Authors” section.

Funny women writing comedy and books is amazing. There is nothing like reading this book; it was not quite as emotional as some of the books I have read in a similar vein, but it was entirely relatable in the most fantastic way. Kaling discusses the importance of knowing how to do an Irish Exit (when you leave a party without saying goodbye to anyone), and has some notions about romance thrown in as well. It’s fun and funny, and I can not recommend it highly enough.
