Alright Fangirls, it’s finally time to talk about the 3 movies we’ve watched so far for 31 Nights of Horror (which isn’t actually scary). I am the biggest of chickens, so I’m not a fan of genuinely scary movies, but I do like comedies and the like. So TheThirdRLM has modified his list of spooky movies to accommodate my fears, and we’re mostly watching goofy scary movies.
We started the month off (literally because we saw this at an 11:30 showing) with Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. While I quite enjoyed the movie, I found it had some startling differences from the books. They knocked the plot down from 3 books to one movie, and skipped a lot of the adventure aspects; it’s basically the first book with a bit of the final book’s ending. Just a bit, though. It was a very pretty film though; the peculiars all looked wonderful, as did the settings. The hollowghasts were perfectly terrifying (very Slenderman), and I enjoyed the movie.
Next, we watched The Craft which is a ’90s witch movie that was made specifically for me. There are bad jokes, overpowered teenagers, and a whole lot of incredible fashion. I feel like it fits right in with Heathers, which is my favorite movie.
And last night, we watched Jennifer’s Body. That is one of my all time favorite “spooky” movies. I don’t find it scary so much as I find it hilarious, and that’s why it’s great. Jennifer’s Body is about a girl who gets sacrificed to the devil on false pretenses, and turns into a succubus. She eats boys and her best friend turns against her. It’s the best type of trash, and I love it dearly.
Since it’s the first week, we only have three movies that we’ve seen so far. But we’ll be updating you on Tuesdays with what we’ve watched, and letting you know just how spooky it is. Happy Month of Terror, Fangirls!
