One of my favorite things to do is go to a bookstore and peruse the titles. If I find anything interesting but I know I don’t have time to explore it, I write it down and grab the free sample on my Kindle later. Sometimes it works out, but most times it doesn’t. My latest find, a novel called The Flight of the Silvers by Daniel Price, will be remembered as one of the best finds I’ve ever stumbled upon in a bookstore.
The Flight of the Silvers is about the end of our world, and for six specific people the start of a new one. At the moment our world literally comes crashing down, six strangers find themselves on an alternate Earth. They are found and brought together, to be cared for at the Pellitier building run by Sterling Quint. As they learn about each other and this new Earth, they begin to develop strange temporal powers. And as they develop these powers, many many new threats come for them. They must band together and learn to trust each other in order to survive.
That, of course, is the most broad description I can give without giving anything away. As I said, I grabbed the sample, which took me through the first few chapters of the novel. I was instantly intrigued and decided that ten dollars wasn’t too much to spend in order to download a new book. I bought it as a distraction at work when nothing was happening. Unfortunately and very fortunately, it turned into a book I absolutely couldn’t put down.
This novel was non stop Science Fiction deeply character and action driven insanity. Any chance I got, I had my Kindle in hand reading it. For the first time in a long long time I read a book in only a few days.
Thankfully, this is the first in a series, and book two just came out this summer. So my next reading selection is already chosen. However, I have this terrible feeling that I’ll be waiting a few years for book 3 (because a book 3 is in the works). There are three years separating books 1 and 2. I have a feeling something similar will happen with book 3.
Believe me right now – if you like science fiction you must absolutely read this book. I promise you it won’t take you long to read at all, even if it is somewhere around 650 pages long. Grab this book in any chosen format you can and read it.
