Fangirls, I love Overwatch. I love all of the strong characters, the different play styles, and especially the wat Blizzard gave them all back stories. That’s why I picked up this anthology of Overwatch comics.
I haven’t sat down with a single issue in a hot minute, but I have plenty of trades to work through. This took top priority though, because it isn’t just some Overwatch stories; a lot of it is backstory. So while we do get Halloween and Christmas comics, we also got some backstory on characters like Tracer, Reinhardt, and Torbjorn.
Since this is an anthology, there isn’t a single story through line here; it’s just a collection. Overwatch characters are so varied and interesting, that I love gaining as much knowledge as I can on them. Plus, when I first picked this up to thumb through it, the first page that fell open had Brigitte Lindholm on it, and she is a character I am loving to play.
This was a fun read because of all the back story. I started playing Symmetra awhile back, but hadn’t done any research on her. I always thought she was kind of a bad guy, trying to reshape the world exactly how she wanted it. But I’m her comic, I learned that she was a part of the Vishkar group that was attempting the change, but when they did everything in their power to get a deal, she no longer wanted it. And I really appreciated that! It made me enjoy playing Symmetra even more.
If you like Overwatch, in any capacity, this is a fun read. I loved seeing little kids to emotes and voice lines throughout, along with actually learning more about my mains. If you’ve got the time, you should pick up the first Overwatch Anthology, and hope for a second volume!
