Caraval by Stephanie Garber

h my goodness, Fangirls. I was lent Caraval by a coworker who shares my love of books, and I sped through it! I’m going to stay as spoiler free as possible, but know that you should be reading this.

Caraval is a performance and a game, wrapped into a four night extravaganza. There, you can’t take anything at face value. Scarlett Dragna wrote to Master Legend seven times, in hopes of Caraval coming to her town, so her sister could experience some joy after their mother left. It took Legend ages, but he finally invited the sisters.

Before leaving, Scarlett changes her mind, and doesn’t want to go, but Donatella (her sister) wants to go so desperately, that she convinces a sailor to drug Scarlett, and take them both. But when Scarlett wakes, Donatella is nowhere to be found.

The goal of this years game is to find Donatella Dragna, and Scarlett isn’t the only one looking. Not only does she have the help of her unwitting sailor companion, but everyone else at Caraval is also searching for Donatella. And the prize for finding her is a wish.

This book was absolutely incredible. It was a fantastic escape and truly swept me off my feet. If you haven’t read Caraval, it’s more than worth grabbing a copy. It features a beautiful mix of adventure, mystery, and romance. Plus, the sequel, Legendary, comes out in a couple weeks. So go get into Caraval now!
