A coworker recommended and lent this book to me, because it’s a graphic novel / novel hybrid, and seemed really up my alley. She was incredibly correct, and I want to encourage you to go check it out as well.
Brosh’s book is exactly what is professes to be; “unfortunate situations, flawed coping mechanisms, mayhem, and other things that happened”. It’s full of all of that, with a fun combination of words and art. It’s a bit beyond hilarious, and a great book.
I really appreciated this book because of the description of depression. I don’t think I’ve ever read quite an exact depiction of what it is to have depression. She also talks about the difficulty that comes with explaining your depression, and levels with people. Its something that I tend to have difficulty with, and it was reassuring to read that other people struggle with.
Altogether, I adored reading this. I think it’s a great book, and I read it at a very good time in my life. If you’re in your early 20s and looking for a fun and interesting read, check out Hyperbole and a Half. You can grab a copy at Target, Amazon, and Barnes and Noble!
