I stopped updating my 18 in 2018 project pan for a couple reasons, but mostly because they were boring. They weren’t fun to write, and I think that came across in my articles. I do, however, feel really good about the products I used up, and I’m making goals for next year too.
First of all, lets look at some empties. I used up all of these products this year, and I’m so glad to be finally dumping my empties! Also, it feels really good to see how much I’ve used, and it makes me look forward to using up a bunch in 2019. Altogether in 2018, I used up 99 products total; 5 bath bombs, 7 packages of makeup wipes, 11 liquid soaps, 8 solid soaps, 14 face masks (11 of which were sheet masks), 7 hair products, 2 deodorants, 4 lotions, 12 non-mask face products, 2 eyeshadows, 1 pack of cotton swabs, 2 packs of cotton rounds, 6 eyeliners, 8 lip products, 2 perfumes, 3 mascaras, and 5 nail polishes! The estimated cost of products that I used is around $775.
In 2019, I’m going to keep it up. Above is a photo of the products I’d like to focus on, and hope to finish. While I’m not putting myself under buying bans this coming year, I am going to try to not buy things that I already have. One of the things that I learned this year was just how many duplicates I have, and how much I don’t need to buy. My main goal for products in 2019 is to finish (like, completely) my Chocolate Bar palette from Too Faced, and to finish all sample size products I have. I know it’s a bit of a steep goal, but I’ve got pan in two of the colors, and finished one of the colors as well this year. I hope to use exclusively this palette for my eyes for the first half of the year, and make my way through it.
While I can’t say that documenting your panning is for everyone, I can say that it has been really good for me. I like that I’ve gotten a bit of clarity where my money has gone with beauty products, and just how much I have. I’m grateful to have money to spend on these things, but I definitely have more than I need, and will be trying to buy even less cosmetics and bath products next year. I’m so proud of myself for not buying anything from LUSH this past year; not because I have anything against the company, but instead because I have so many products that I have yet to use from them. I have made immense progress on my hoard of LUSH stuff, but I’m still not out. I’m not going to be running to the store on January first, but I’m also not going to stop myself if I see something I like. My plan is to look through my collection for something similar before buying, and that’s my goal for other products as well.
Stepping away from purchasing so much is difficult; I struggle to not just buy the things I want when I want them. But things feel more meaningful when there aren’t as many to choose from. I have 7 eyeshadow palettes, and I can get a simple, every day look out of all of them. Why should I buy more?
Thanks so much to everyone who has supported my panning journey, and who has understood why I’m doing this. I’ll do another roundup next year of what I actually finished, and make goals for 2020 as well. Happy Panning, Fangirls!
