I read eleven books last month (three of which were audio books), and I’m kind of proud of that. I’m hoping to go a step further and read twelve this month, but first let’s go over what I read!
I finished Cheer Up, Mr Widdicombe by Evan James in March, which is great because it was released on the 26th! It was an interesting adult fiction that had a bit of a Gatsby vibe; adults with too much money and a young man who comes to spend time with them. I felt like it was more braggart than Gatsby, and while it was interesting, it wasn’t my favorite thing.
I also read The Mermaid’s Voice Returns in This One by Amanda Lovelace. Much like her other books, this pulled my heart right out, slapped it a bit, then tried to make it better. It’s the third (and final) book in her Women are Some Kind of Magic series, which I highly recommend you pick up the entirety of.
I read Maria Semple’s Where’d You Go, Bernadette? because I thought the movie came out in March. I was wrong, but I enjoyed the book!
I also read Angie Thomas’s new release, On The Come Up. This was an incredible story, and I loved that it took place in a different part of Garden Heights.
Another book that I read was Grim Lovelies by Megan Shepard. It wasn’t a favorite of mine; I felt like all of the characters were kind of bland, and the only queer character was killed off about 10 pages after he came out.
I read The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert as well, and felt kind of in between about it. The concept was neat, but I didn’t feel invested.
The only comic I read in March was VE Schwab’s The Steel Prince. This was a lot of fun to read, and the art was pretty dang incredible. I’m excited for volume two!
The last book that I read in March was my favorite, Ash Princess by Laura Sebastian. I absolutely adored this book; I ordered the second when I was just 100 pages in. It’s a really great story, and I’m excited to continue the series!
I’m pretty dang excited about the books I’ve got to read this month as well!
First up I’ve got Ronan Boyle and the Bridge of Riddles by Thomas Lennon. It’s a middle grade book that feels very Artemis Fowl. I started it this weekend and am in love with it!
Next I’m planning on reading The Prince and the Dressmaker by Jen Wang. This is a graphic novel that has gotten quite a bit of hype recently, and I’m excited to read it.
The other graphic novel I have to read this month, is PTSD by Guillame Singelin. It’s a story of a woman who has come home from war, but is still struggling. This is another that I can not wait to read.
I’m also super excited to read Pretty in Punxsutawney by Laura Boyle Crompton. I watched Happy Death Day, Happy Death Day 2 U, and Groundhog Day either late February or early March, and I loved the reliving the same day trope. This seems to be a YA play on that, and I’m really intrigued by it.
Another YA book I’m quite ready for, is Be More Chill by Ned Vizzini. I’ve listened to the soundtrack for the musical adaptation of this, and I’m interested in seeing how they differ.
Also YA on my TBR, is The Beginners Guide to Winning an Election by Michael R French. This was a goodreads giveaway that I’m interested in because it’s a man writing about a young woman. I’m curious to see how I feel about the voices in it.
The final book that I’m planning on reading this month is The Electric Hotel by Dominic Smith. Another giveaway that I’m intrigued by; I have no history or knowledge of this book.
I said that I want to read twelve books, but have only planned for seven because I’d like to surprise myself with the last few. I also have a short vacation (that takes place three hours away from where I live) coming up towards the end of the month, and I’m excited to bring a bunch of books to read then!
Also, I’m not buying any books this month. I’m going to only take in the books that are free from giveaways, a part of my book box subscription, and arcs for review. So no new money will be spent on books. I’m also going to be reorganizing books a bit, because I just bought a new bookshelf, and I’m currently shuffling the ones that I have. I will definitely be posting photos when things have been shuffled and organized. Happy reading everyone!
