Rayne & Delilah’s Midnite Matinee by Jeff Zentner

My boyfriend has introduced me to the world of cheesey horror movies. You know, the really bad ones? Part of their charm lies within hosted shows. These shows usually break the movie into chunks, with a host dissecting how bad parts are, where it was filmed, what the cast is up to now. They’re a big part of horror culture that I wasn’t really aware of until recently. A big name in hosted shows is Elvira, maybe you’ve heard of her!

Josie and Delia have their own horror show. They play the hosts, Rayne and Delilah, who are sister vampires. They have a weekly show on public access television, with viewership in different parts of the country. It’s pretty rad, especially when you realize that they’re only in high school.

As our gals graduate, they’re thinking of the future; will they stay local and continue the show, or go separate ways? When an opportunity to meet an old horror host and producer, Jack Divine, at ShiverCon (a horror convention), everything becomes very real. The girls have to decide if what they’re doing, and what meeting this producer means.

This book was so much fun. I really recommend it, whether or not your a fan of horror movies and their hosts, but it’s definitely more fun if you’re aware of some horror host shows. You can grab a copy at Barnes & Noble or Target!
