I Might Regret This by Abbi Jacobson

Have you ever read a book or watched a TV show at exactly the right time? Consumed some sort of media that was exactly what you needed in that moment? I Might Regret This by Abbi Jacobson was the perfect book for me the week before my 27th birthday.

Jacobson’s book is a series of essays and illustrations from a cross country road trip she did. It’s full of relatable anecdotes and  sleep studies and all of it hits really close to home for me.

Jacobson writes from a place that many of us know well; she’s dealing with heart break and figuring herself out (the latter of which is something I’m trying really hard to do). While this isn’t a bunch of essays about her ex, there are a lot of mentions of what the ex is doing, or what would happen if they ran into each other.

I think my favorite thing about reading this was the care that is put into it. The illustrations are of album covers she listened to on her trip, or things she did (like a prickly pear margarita that did not exceed expectations).

I read I Might Regret This after two heavy books; one about suicide and repressed memories, and the other about a school shooting. While this wasn’t pure hilarity throughout, it was a realistic medium that helped my brain chill out a bit.

I absolutely adored reading Jacobson’s book. I think if you’re looking for a casual read, or something to take on a road trip with you (or honestly, just a good book), check this out. It’s rad, and I loved it.
