Fangirls, I really like subscription boxes. I try not to get them though, because I have a lot of products. But when I saw that Julep was doing a free November box, I couldn’t resist. As a birthday present to myself, I paid the $2.50 or so in shipping, and had one sent to the apartment. It got to us right on my birthday, and it had three rad products in it.
I know that journals usually happen on Fridays, but this past Friday was my birthday. I struggle pretty hard with birthdays; I tend to not feel like I’ve accomplished as much as others my age, and that gives me a lot of anxiety. I have had birthdays where I couldn’t leave my room because I was so overwhelmed. It seems like my worst birthdays are milestone birthdays, and luckily 24 isn’t that much of a milestone (unlike 16, where you’re *supposed to* get your permit, or 18 where you’re legal, or even 21 when you can purchase and consume alcohol). I did pretty okay for most of Friday, and I think it’s because I’m very lucky to have kind and understanding people in my life.
The first week of November is ending, and I’m excited because I think I’ve started No-Spend November off rather well, I’m getting back on track with exercise, and I’m keeping my birthday anxiety as low as possible.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year fellow fangirls and fanboys! The time of year where we all reflect on the past year and be thankful for what we have, and then wish for more! But seriously what is more exciting than filling out a wish list? It’s become a pastime of mine, it’s like pre-shopping. There’s no commitment, just wishing for the pretty things you see on your screen. Anyway, this is my first year doing the wish list here at Fan Girls Are We and I am excited to see what my fellow writers are wishing for this year.
Now my wish lists are vast and varied but to fit with the theme I narrowed it down to some very geektastic items and tried to pick a couple of fun categories. Maybe I will inspire some of you out there to add to your wish lists! Let’s get started!
True confessions: I am not a Christmas person. Nope, Halloween is my holiday! It’s not that I don’t enjoy ‘the most wonderful time of the year’, there are genuinely some aspects of the holiday season that I love: homemade butter cookies we make with my Great Grandma’s antique cookie press, hot chocolate in front of a fire, decorating a big bushy pine tree, hanging out with my siblings… Making my dog wear adorable sweaters! (Cute dog+cute sweater is like my kryptonite!) But when they start putting Christmas items in stores before October has even begun and airing commercials for Christmas sales it kinda makes me wish I was a necromancer or mad evil scientist so I could unleash the zombie apocalypse the day after Thanksgiving on all the insane ‘Black Friday’ shoppers. I despise how commercial Christmas is, and hordes of holiday shoppers are practically zombies already… Yes, I know, it’s practically Grinchy! (Maybe if I put Santa hats on all the zombies?) If it was left up to me, I’d totally skip the nightmare of holiday shopping and I’d stay home enjoying a big cup of tequila spiked hot cocoa (add a pinch of cayenne for an adult version of Mexican hot chocolate!) and binge watch every Christmas horror movie ever made, starting with that perennial favorite, “Silent Night, Deadly Night.”
I might be cheating a bit because it’s a newer item but a few weeks ago, Ashley Eckstein of Her Universe posted some upcoming designs and one of them was what I thought was a knit sweater with Darth Vader and Stormtroopers. I thought it looked cute and was probably going to buy it but she unveiled the full collection today. Instead of Darth Vader, this is what I want:
Tis’ the season to be a Fangirl! Tra-la-la-la-la! La la la la! Whatever you celebrate this holiday season, I think we can all agree it’s a great time of the year to be a fan of things. People are obligated to buy you gifts – that means they are trying to figure out what you like! All that time you spent trying to explain Doctor Who to your cousin will pay off! All the posts you made about how Sherlocked you are become GOLD to people that are trying to figure out what to purchase for you.
