Feminerd: Size Representation in Comics

Fangirls, I know we’ve discussed the importance of having female role models in the nerd related media before. Today I would like to talk about body type representation, because it’s something that can be extremely difficult to find for someone of my size.

These lovely ladies are from a comic called Zodiac Starforce that comes out next month; Kim is the chicka on the far right.

Feminerd: Taylor Swift

CEZv3YaUMAAQMSGI used to be pretty indifferent to Taylor Swift, like a lot of the world. But with the release of her newest album and the reinventing of herself as a badass feminist icon, I’m on board. You may scoff at the idea of me calling Taylor Swift a feminist, but I will scoff at you. I had no idea this trailer was happening yesterday, and honestly, I had no idea this series was happening. Sure, it makes sense with the sudden peak in superhero things hitting the home screens, but does the series itself make sense?

Feminerd: Five Feminists of China

cartoon-womenOver the last few months I’ve been keeping tabs on a wild ride of feminist discrimination over in China, Fangirls. It doesn’t seem to be getting much attention, and I think that’s just as bad as the event itself. The fight for equality isn’t just here at home, it’s an international problem. Not to be a downer, but when you blow feminism up to a global scale, you realize how much work needs to be done. What has happened in China with these five women is a perfect example of that.
