When Ashley and I decided to go to LeakyCon’s 10th anniversary, we also decided that we wanted to style each other for one of the days. We had seen tons of videos on Buzzfeed or Safiya Nygaard’s channels, so we tried it out. Let me tell you, Ashley was so much better at this than I was, but we’ll get into that in a bit. Since this was for Leaky, we went to our Hogwarts houses for inspiration.
This week, Fangirls, Feminerd is turning to observe something more from my own life. However, I feel that it’s something that can most likely translate to the lives of many women in our world. Growing up, my incredible mother would teach me little life skills that she would file under something referred to as “Little Lady School”. This so called school’s curriculum consisted of skills that she was raised to believe made a proper lady and that she wanted to pass on to her own daughter. Though these were all very useful tools that I appreciate learning, it always bothered me that they were labeled as things that women must learn.
Fangirls, last weekend, something magical went down at my house. Through the power of the more recent Living Room Show phenomenon, a musician I greatly admire rocked the fuck out in my garage. Everything felt so surreal, I’m still trying to figure out if it was a dream or what. Whatever it was, it was awesome.
