Hey Fangirls! A couple weeks back I was lucky enough to go to Special Edition: NYC and meet some absolutely lovely independent creators. I think independent creators are some of the most amazing and inspiring people on the planet. They make what they love, and to me, that’s beautiful. Two of the individuals I met at SE:NYC were David Phillips and Sarah Braly. Let me tell you, Fangirls, these folks really know how to catch an eye. In a sea of grey and blue tables, their’s was neon green. It was littered in lovely yet despicable cupcakes, and had some really intriguing comics on top. So when my friends were looking for back issues that I wasn’t concerned with, I sneaked off to the High Fructose Zombies table.
Hey again Starkids! About a week and a half ago was Valentine’s Day. It’s a great day to spend with your loved ones and blah blah blah. You know the actual important part about this past Valentine’s Day? The second issue of Quicksand Jack came out! Warning: this contains spoilers about Quicksand Jack issue 2. If you don’t want to read them, leave now.
Hey Dikrats! I was really lucky last month, to get to interview the creative team behind Quicksand Jack (the super cool comic written by the writers from Starkid Productions). It took me waaaay too long to finish writing it up, but they’ve been really patient with me. I can’t express how much of an honor it was to sit down for half an hour and talk to these folks. Nick and Matt have been my heroes since high school, and I went into full Fangirl mode when they just replied to my email. It reminded me of why I love doing this. So without further ado, my interview with the Quicksand Jack Creative Team!
Hey Starkiddies! You know what happened last week?! That’s right, Twisted came out! I mean, thanksgiving happened too, and that was cool, but TWISTED. Really though, I was pumped for that. I love Team Starkid, I love Disney, and I love Wicked, so it’s as if this musical was made for me.
Hey Fangirls and Starkid fanatics! As you may know, Nick and Matt Lang’s first issue of their graphic novel came out recently, so let’s talk about it!
So Nick Lang has said that he’s been working on this idea for the past 13 years. Since his high school career, when he came up with the first sketch. Since then, he and his brother Matt have been trying to find a good (and possible) media. They considered an animated show, a movie, book, and even a musical. But I think graphic novel was perfect, and I’m really happy that they chose that.
