For the past couple of weeks, I have been eyeing a magazine at work. Time Magazine’s 100 Healthiest Foods and How to Eat Them has been sitting on our magazine rack, taunting me. I couldn’t justify the $14 price on a magazine, but when I saw the 30 recipes in the back (and the incredibly gorgeous photos throughout) I finally doled out the cash. One of the recipes really called to me; waffles. I had just ordered a Death Star Waffle Iron from ThinkGeek, and felt the only way to celebrate was to make waffles (of course)!
Fangirls (and Fanboys, and everyone inbetween) that time is upon us again. The Holidays.
Also known as the time when I receive anything that my family can find emblazoned with Steve Rogers on it. While I *love* Steve, I’m trying ever so hard to get my family and friends to realize that my nerdy interests are broad and ever-reaching!
True confessions: I am not a Christmas person. Nope, Halloween is my holiday! It’s not that I don’t enjoy ‘the most wonderful time of the year’, there are genuinely some aspects of the holiday season that I love: homemade butter cookies we make with my Great Grandma’s antique cookie press, hot chocolate in front of a fire, decorating a big bushy pine tree, hanging out with my siblings… Making my dog wear adorable sweaters! (Cute dog+cute sweater is like my kryptonite!) But when they start putting Christmas items in stores before October has even begun and airing commercials for Christmas sales it kinda makes me wish I was a necromancer or mad evil scientist so I could unleash the zombie apocalypse the day after Thanksgiving on all the insane ‘Black Friday’ shoppers. I despise how commercial Christmas is, and hordes of holiday shoppers are practically zombies already… Yes, I know, it’s practically Grinchy! (Maybe if I put Santa hats on all the zombies?) If it was left up to me, I’d totally skip the nightmare of holiday shopping and I’d stay home enjoying a big cup of tequila spiked hot cocoa (add a pinch of cayenne for an adult version of Mexican hot chocolate!) and binge watch every Christmas horror movie ever made, starting with that perennial favorite, “Silent Night, Deadly Night.”
The good thing about being a vocal Nerd Girl at the holidays is that everyone knows you will LOVE a nerdy gift. The difficulty comes in when the gift buyer knows that you own everything Captain America (*cough*) in existence and are now at a complete loss as to how to gift for you!
It’s probably pretty apparent that I am a humongous coffee geek. I’m always looking for and researching new gadgets, brewing methods, and blends. Though I’m very particular about it all, any coffee related would be a lovely gift to get. I’ve compiled this list of equipment for different home brew methods, some of my favorite roasts & blends, and great mugs to drink it all out of!
Think Geek is one of the coolest nerd sites out there. It covers everything, from the Shire to a galaxy far, far away. I know we usually talk about clothing only sites, but this one is worth the exception.
So this is the last Fortress Friday at my house in New York! Next we’ll be showing off my apartment in Florida, and we’ll see where it goes from there!
This week is just about the cups and mugs I have, because having adult cups is too boring and I can’t do it.
